I write fiction and nonfiction. I write about and for those who sit in the crosshairs of a body-conscious existence. Who are culturally under siege. I write for those recovering from art school and industry. I write for the disembodied, the nature-shy. I write for people who have thrashed against systems undermining their creative expression, sense of self, and relationship to their body.
I write to figure out how culture, societal expectations, and place have shaped my imagination and understanding of self. The main lens in the writing is transness, and my body’s close relations to the hyper-hetero gendered performances I grew up alongside in Miami, Florida. I write stories and essays that push up against ideas of dominant trans narratives.
My background as an interdisciplinary artist—printmaking, painting, video, etc–has primed me to notice grams per square meter, width, weft, typeface, ink quality, scale, if the paper is laid or deckled. As a writer and artist, I push against the idea that visual artists should exhibit in galleries, and writers should land bylines and book deals—I believe in more.
If you’re interested in more of my writing, if you’re looking for an editor, if you want to collaborate on something, if you need someone to write your artist statement for you, or if you just want to connect you can do so here.
Here is my CV.
